Stretching before my workout

Update and pictures from Albuquerque
19th January 2005
Hi everyone. I hope everyone is now settled into 2005 and working towards their ambitions for the year.

Doing drills

We are now out in Albuquerque, New Mexico for an altitude training camp. It's nice to be here and able to focus on the training and recovery. It's one of the reasons I spend so much time training at altitude. The air is cleaner (a big thing for asthmatics is that dust mites don't survive above 1500m) and the scenery and running is beautiful and motivating, as well as tough. The weather is also better here at the moment, it's nice to be able to train in t-shirt and shorts and dry sunshine! Being away from home also means fewer distractions giving us more time and energy to concentrate on training.

Albuquerque foothills

Before heading out here I spent a week with Gerard Hartmann in Limerick getting my body checked over and prepared for this block of hard training. It went well though I did have to bite the towel a bit as he worked through some areas that needed some really deep work.

The first week here is building into the training block and getting over the slight jet lag. I'll still run near 130 miles but won't run very hard lactate sessions until the second week. I've been to altitude so many times that the body now does remember and adapts more quickly than it was able to the first few times.

Finally I'd like to again thank everyone who has visited the guestbook and forums and wish everyone luck in their upcoming goals.
