Training in Font Romeu.

Facing track debut
27th May 2005
Hi Everyone,

Stretching before a track session

I hope the sun is shining where you are, and that summer is in fact just around the corner. As you can see from the pictures, the sun is shining in Font Romeu at the minute and it is very welcome. I say that as last week we had 6 inches of snow, a major change from the previous day when the temperature was 15 degrees and sunny. Still, that is life in the mountains for you and it usually disappears quickly this time of year although for a few days the trails were a little muddy!

Stretching before a track session

I am enjoying being back here, catching up with all my favourite trails and people here again. As I'm just getting back into training though, some of it has been a bit of a shock to the system - but I guess we all feel that when we are starting back after having a break from training. Back in the UK the track season is definitely underway and it is really good to see Emily Pidgeon continuing the way she finished the cross country season by running well over 5k last weekend in Manchester at the BMC meet. At the annual meet in Loughborough there was also a PB by Sam Ellis in the 800m where he won in 1.47 and hopefully he can build on that throughout the summer. Also I was very impressed by Chris Davies' run in Manchester, he certainly wasn't intimidated by the quality athletes around him and he got stuck in and committed himself to run a great race. I hope to see him translate that to the track this summer.

On the track in Font Romeu

Next week I'm actually heading over to Beaverton, Oregon for a visit to the Nike Campus and the guys who work on my shoes over there. As the Prefontaine meet, a meet I have always wanted to do but never managed to fit in, is that weekend I may have a quick run out there just to blow out the cobwebs. It would be over 1500m and just seven weeks after the London Marathon, I'm anticipating there may be a good few cobwebs! That said it's a long time since I've raced a good 1500m and it would be great fun.

Best Wishes,
