Hello,

It was me who mentioned about the spikes, I definitely read in an article that it was the bunion and associated problems that prevented her wearing spikes. However I think the motivation to get back on the track is partly because she misses stadium racing and partly because she wants to come back gradually and get back into racing, which is easier over shorter distances.

Yes I first met Kris at a meeting in Portsmouth when i was at University. Somehow got roped into raking the long jump pit (somebody must have seen officating rather than competing was my long term forte ).

anyway he came up to talk to his coach who was involved with helping at the long jump as well. as you say an infectious personality with a unique laugh. I read his autobiography and he had a difficult childhood. many blame people's latter bad behaviour on such a childhood but Kris overcaem all that to be not only successful but a nice guy.

However still think his record should go. It was mainly built on great flat speed rather than good technical hurdling ability. Of course when he got it he took David Hemery's 1968 record which was also the world record at the time. Hemery was a superb technician but he probably benefited from the high altitude at Mexico City reducing the wind resistance for the sprinters.

Thanks HS, it was just so frustrating. May well for for the 10 mile and see how it goes. It is a little undulating though. Out in the far North-East corner of Bedfordshire pretty much on the Cambs border actually.

I expect very big things from Mary Keitany. She also set the world record for 25 k last year in Berlin. I'm a bit dissapointed that her debut is New York as would liked to have seen how fast she can go on an easier course.

A genuine contender for 2012.

I think it would be great for Paula to race on the track (5K and 10K) as well as racing at that distance on the roads. It is MUCH easier to train/race/recover from those distances than a full marathon and will serve Paula well as she's been out of the running so-to-speak for quite some time now.

And it does help to sharpen the legs/mind/body for longer distances. I SO miss Paula and can't wait to see her back in action.

I'm still here (even though I live all the way in Los Angeles) because I'm a die-hard fan and am 100% rooting for Paula to win in London 2012!

Yes, I second that, more medals than expected. Jessica is truely the world's No.1 and if she can stay healthy is a good bet for a gold in 2012. Mo did very well with his double golds, but he will have to up his game considerably to have any chance against the Kenyans etc.
Can't wait to the weekend's two marathons, not just because Andi Jones is running, but because Paula is joining Steve and Bren in the BBC commentary box

That 17.81 brought back memories of Keith Connor.

I was very surprised to see who won it. Great race although her time was not too good. Surprised that Dita, Liz Yelling and Yamaoutchi didn't run
It was a good run to watch all in all, and nice views. The Italian Girl finished third was so happy it was like Gold to her

While I do agree that if Semenya wants the results kept secret then they should be. But I don't believe it's in her interest. So many leaked details have come out, that people are going to draw there own conclusions - and those conclusions seem to be against her. Whether the leaked details are true or not is decide the point. If Semenya publishes the details. those who believe in those leaked details, will have to eat their words. At he moment the press and the sceptical public will hound her where ever she runs.

That is of course if the IAAF have made the correct decision, and not bowed to South African threats.

yes HS, football does tend to dominate and you'd think they would at least give us some success in return I think it will show when we get to Barcelona for the Euro Champs.

Still before then Mr Murray has made the quarters at Wimbledon. He's not had a great year but seems to be in some sort of form suddenly. Has t obeat Mr Tsonga who can be brilliant but is very inconsistent so hopefully will reach the semis. However he will then have to beat Nadal and Federer to win so going to be tough

JN - yes we are very lucky here even if some don't always appreciate it.

Despite the fact that there is blanket world cup fotball coverage plus heavy coverage of Wimbledon and the European F1 Grand Prix yesterday we still had coverage of our National Athletics championships on Saturday and Sunday on the BBC.

As I say very lucky and not advert breaks either. I must admit showing one sport in the middle of another sport's show sounds a bit weird.
