OK so where's all the chat guys?? I have been out every evening so far so haven't seen much apart from highlights.
Not bad for the Brits so far. Great run by Mo Farah and he ran it to help Thompson get a medal as well which he did with Silver. Not team tactics as such but certainly awareness of a team member and great to see.
100M last night. Well done to Lematrie on his win but amazing for the nex places with four people getting the same time. Hav to say I didn't expect MLF t owin a Silver so great result for him. Our reformed drugs offender lost out and surely he bottled it, the race not the drugs Ran a semi that would have been competitive for first place and ahead but then tightened up.
$00M hurdles guys doing well with three in the semis and both Turner and Sharman through in the sprint hurdles.
The main issue is the pretty much complete lack of any British throwers which is a shame but enjoyed the women's discus competition with the winning throw being the penultimate on and a great effort it was to _________________ Great Britain - Land of Fair play and sportsmanship. I guess it's not message board worthy when the World's best aren't there. (No Americans, No Kenyans or Ethiopians, What kind of championships is this?) I mean come on a Brit won the 10k? |

I was surprised that MLF won silver too, enjoying watching the all the races.
Yes I'd like to see more throwers too, shame Sayers is injured.
Abeylegesse winning the 10,000m is near enough an Ethiopian, as makes no difference. If Moreira fials to medal in the 5000, she'll be kicking herself for dropping out in 4th with 10 laps to go, the other "Ethiopian" was in third at that point and then dropped back to fifth at the finish. |

Behave JN
Actually some people have made the point about no Africans in the 10,000M but actually no Brit has EVER won the European championships and whilst that might not be a shock if you just think recent years, going back it is. Except that then Europe in general was quite strong in the distance events.
Can't really argue on 10.11 being a pretty slow time to win the 100M although you probably need to mention the Caribbean there as well
Somebody also made the point that European and commonwealth champs don't really count. Well many of the aforementioned Africans and Carribeans will be at the Commonwealth so sprints and distance will be strong but throws generally poor. Whereas in the Europeans the sprints and distance aren't so hot but the throws are. Also the women's events are typically more competitive. So overall they are both weaker events than global ones but there is a big difference in quality depending on the event.
Plus JN if you want to pick on Europeans on general then you need to understand that Spain is winning everything at the moment.... which is getting a bit monotonous to be honest _________________ Great Britain - Land of Fair play and sportsmanship. The BOA banning drugs cheats for life ! |

Great runs by Mo and Thompson. Rather disappointing 100 metres in my opinion, a slow time for a winning final. Chambers certainly choked, as he had a superb start and had the race as good as won. A lot has been made of the Frenchman being the first under 10 secs. but in todays climate, that is no longer a benchmark and against the likes of Bolt, Gay, Powell etc. he would be metres behind.
Thompson about to start in the 5,000 metres. He stands a good chance of another medal as he should easily get through his heat. _________________ I run, therefore I am

Great jumping by Idowu, wasn't expecting him to get a PB (17.81), well done.
Can't wait to the weekend's two marathons, not just because Andi Jones is running, but because Paula is joining Steve and Bren in the BBC commentary box |

It's annoying there's a track programme on at the same time as the marathon.  _________________ I support;

| When watching the marathon this morning I was thinking about the 2012 european championships, do you think ANYONE will want to run in that marathon a couple of weeks before the Olympic marathon in London. The event will be so uncompetative it will be radiculous. I know this has been discussed before for other events but I could see 5000/ 10000 meter runners using the european championships as a warm up, but definitely not the marathon runners. |

^Probably those who weren't selected for the Olympics (e.g. 2:28 B-rate Russian marathoners). _________________ I support;

Apparently there are no race-walking events or marathons in 2012. _________________ I support;

That 17.81 brought back memories of Keith Connor. _________________ { I love Paula } |
